Our Story

When Chez Oskar opened in 1998, a culinary bohemia exploded on the back streets of Brooklyn. Inspired by New York's Harlem Renaissance and the neighborhood bistros of Paris, Oskar is a culinary  counterculture to Manhattan's sterile eateries, cranking out fine French cuisine jazzed up by Brooklyn's cultural diversity. With 'El grand Chefe' Octavio Simancas' superb cooking (he's almost Fran├žais) Angelique Calmet's fine touch from service to brave wine selections (now She really really is French), and owner/artist Charlotta Janssen's severely colorful touch (slightly French due to Napoleon's army invading Bohemia) and a staff from all over 'le monde' to make you feel at home where ever you may be from, we dare to call ourselves: Le Funky French Bistro de Brooklyn...
